The Ordre professionnel des médecins vétérinaires du Québec recognizes the following specialties:

(1) veterinary anesthesiology;

(2) large animal surgery;

(3) companion animal surgery;

(4) veterinary dermatology;

(5) veterinary medical imaging;

(6) animal behaviour medicine;

(7) laboratory animal medicine;

(8) large animal internal medicine;

(9) companion animal internal medicine;

(10) zoological medicine;

(11) veterinary microbiology;

(12) veterinary neurology;

(13) veterinary oncology;

(14) veterinary ophthalmology;

(15) animal pathology;

(16) veterinary clinical pathology;

(17) veterinary theriogenology;

(18) veterinary emergency medicine and critical care.

RECOGNIZED SPECIALTIES

1. The specialties recognized by the board of directors of the Ordre professionnel des médecins vétérinaires du Québec are

(1) “surgery”: the specialty in veterinary medicine whose subject matter is the diagnosis and surgical correction of diseases, abnormalities or wounds in large or small animals;

(2) “internal medicine”: the specialty in veterinary medicine whose subject matter is the diagnosis and the non-surgical treatment of diseases in large or small animals;

(3) “microbiology”: the specialty in veterinary medicine whose subject matter is the diagnosis of animal diseases caused by infectious agents of all kinds;

(4) “pathology”: the specialty in veterinary medicine whose subject matter is the diagnosis of diseases, abnormalities or causes of accidents or death through the macroscopic and microscopic examination of animal cadavers or organs;

(5) “theriogenology”: the specialty in veterinary medicine whose subject matter is the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases, abnormalities and accidents related to animal reproduction and the use of advanced technologies in the area of animal reproduction;

(6) “clinical pathology”: the specialty in veterinary medicine whose subject matter is the diagnosis of diseases using laboratory tests carried out on samples taken from animals.
